Special Weather Statement
The National Weather Service Fairbanks has issued a special weather statement for the Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast including Kaktovik and Flaxman Island. Tides are expected to up to 2 feet above normal through early Thursday morning. The strong wind of 25 to 35 mph is expected to diminish this morning as an area of low pressure continues to pull away from the area. The strong wind will produce seas of up to 6 feet. This may affect the east end of the Barter Island runway at Kaktovik.

The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s State Disaster Assistance Program remains open for individuals and families in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, City of Nenana, the Denali Borough, the North Slope Borough including the village of Wainwright, the City of Kaktovik and Yukon-Koyukuk REAA, who sustained damages to their primary residence, personal property, and transportation during the July/August 2008 flooding event.  To apply, call toll free, 1-800-921-3682. Tomorrow, Friday, 3 October 2008 is the last day for individuals and families to apply for State Disaster Assistance.
