SITUATION REPORT 08-211 (as of 11:00 AM, July 29, 2008)

Flood Warnings
Goodpaster River
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Goodpaster River until 800 am AKDT Wednesday up to 3 inches of rain have fallen since early Monday.  Morning at 6am Tuesday the Goodpaster River gage reached a stage of 20.6 ft. In 2006 cabins along the Goodpaster flooded at a stage of 20 ft.

Salcha River
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Salcha River until 8:48 PM AKDT Wednesday.  Heavy rain is continuing to fall in the Salcha River basin. 2 inches of rain has fallen in the last 12 hours near the Richardson Highway Bridge and heavy rain has been reported upstream. The river is reported to be rising rapidly upstream.  At the Richardson Highway Bridge the Salcha River is expected to crest at 17.3 feet at 4AM Wednesday evening.  Flood stage is 14 feet.  Small tributaries feeding the Salcha River will likely be near or above bankfull stages today.

Tanana River in the Deltana and Tanana flats area and in the eastern Alaska Range
The National Weather Service has extended the flood warning for tributaries of the Tanana River in the Deltana and Tanana flats area and in the eastern Alaska Range until 11:45 am AKDT Wednesday.  Rainfall amounts from up to 3 inches have fallen across the area.  More rain is expected tonight.
The warning affects rivers draining into the Tanana River along the Alaska Range west of the Tok cutoff and east of the Parks Highway. This area includes the Richardson Highway from Salcha south to Isabel Pass. Rivers are expected to reach flood stage today. Heaviest rainfall tonight is expected to be west of Delta and Isabel Pass.


Chignik Alaska, Fire
Trident Seafoods Corporation at Chignik Alaska reported a fire to the Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) on July 21.  The city of Chignik is located 450 miles Southwest of Anchorage, on the Peninsula. http://www.dec.state.ak.us/spar/perp/response/sum_fy09/080721201/080721201_index.htm

Ashfall Advisory
The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued an ashfall advisory for the Eastern Aleutians including Unalaska and Nikolsk until 12PM AKDT.


Alaska Wildfires
Alaska Interagency Coordination Center (AICC):

As of July 28, 2008, there have been a total of 331 fires reported with total acreage of 79,528.
