Blackberry Users Section
This section is for Blackberry users who have trouble reading the normal sitrep on their Blackberries. It only contains new or significantly updated items from the DHS&EM Daily Situation Report.
(Significant changes from previous reports are in red)
Operational Environment
• A Unified Command has been established at the SECC. It is comprised of DHS&EM and DHSS staff members.
• There is widespread ice jam flooding affecting many communities throughout the state.
· A Riverwatch team remains deployed, based out of St Mary’s for river ice surveillance.
· Two Flood Response Teams continue to be deployed to coordinate flooding response and flooding support activities; they are staged in Eagle and Fairbanks.
• Activity at Redoubt Volcano continues.
• Significant Weather from the NWS
Flood watch and warning for the following areas:
Yukon Delta -- from St Marys to Mountain Village; flood watch in effect through this evening
From Russian Mission to Pilot Station; flood warning in effect until 530 pm Wednesday
Dense fog from early this morning through this morning
Lower Yukon Valley -- from Russian Mission to Pilot Station; flood warning in effect until 530 pm Wednesday
Community Assistance and Monitored Events
The SECC is actively monitoring several events. Some events which were previously monitored are still open but awaiting further actions.
• Ice Jam Flooding
The following communities have been reported to have flooded or are currently flooding due to ice
jams:
• 4/28 – Salcha
• 5/4 – Crooked Creek, Red Devil, Sleepmute, Eagle/Eagle Village, Aniak, Napaimiut and
the Alaska Railroad north of Talkeetna.
• 5/5 – North Pole (at the steamboat landing), Kobuk
• 5/6 – Chalkyitsik, Chistochina, Ft. Yukon, Upper and Lower Kalskag
• 5/7 – Circle, Ruby, McGrath
• 5/8 – Tuluksak, Akiak, Kwethluk, Beaver
• 5/11—Stevens Village, Nulato, Bethel, Oscarville (minor) and Tanana
· 5/12 – Napakiak and Napaskiak (both minor) and Akiachak
· 5/28 – Russian Mission, Grayling (minor) Anvik (minor) and Marshall

• H1N1 Flu Outbreak
The ongoing outbreak of novel influenza A (H1N1) continues to expand in the United States and internationally. CDC expects that more cases, more hospitalizations and more deaths from this outbreak will occur over the coming days and weeks.
19 May 2009 -- As of 06:00 GMT, 19 May 2009, 40 countries have officially reported 9830 cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection, including 79 deaths.

Alaska Interagency Coordination Center (AICC):
As of May 20, 2009, there have been a total of 109 fires reported with total acreage of 39,894.9.

• Red Flag Warnings
Matanuska Valley -- in effect from 3 pm this afternoon to 10 pm Thursday for strong wind
Copper River Basin -- in effect from 4 pm this afternoon to 10 pm Thursday for low humidity
Yukon Flats and Surrounding Uplands, Central Interior, Middle Tanana Valley, Deltana and Tanana Flats, Upper Tanana Valley and the Fortymile Country, Denali and the Northeastern Slopes of the Eastern Alaska Range -- remains in effect until 10 pm Thursday for low humidity
