State of Alaska Situation
Volcano
Augustine Volcano:  Current Level of Concern Color Code: Yellow.
The level of seismic activity at Augustine Volcano remains above background. However, small explosions can still occur with no warning and could affect low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the volcano. Web camera and satellite views were cloudy yesterday. There is no indication that a large eruption of Augustine is imminent.

National Situation
A Mormon missionary going door-to-door was fatally shot Monday night and a fellow missionary was wounded by an assailant who fled, police said. The attacks happened just after 6 p.m. in the Deep Creek area of the city, police said, when a man approached the two, shot them and ran away. More...

International Situation
Israel launched air strikes in Gaza early Monday, hitting a building it said was being used by Palestinian militants for terrorist activities, an Israel Defense Forces representative said. Militants have been launching rockets from Palestinian territories into Israel. The IDF has said that more than 200 Qassam rockets have been fired at Israel within the past four months. More...

Nearly 6,000 Iraqi civilians, police and troops were killed in violence last year, data released by the Interior Ministry on Tuesday showed. The figures were lower than those compiled by independent bodies basing their calculations on media reports. Of the 5,736 dead, 4,020 were civilians, 1,241 police officers, and 475 were Iraqi soldiers, the date showed. No comparable figures for previous years were available.
