State of Alaska Situation
FEMA representatives met with DHS&EM staff today to kick-off the federal public assistance program for DR-1618 (2005 West Coast Alaska Storm).  Project worksheets will be developed for eligible projects.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks continues blizzard warning for St Lawrence Island and Bering Strait Coast. Blizzard warning remains in effect until 6 pm Thursday. Dangerous high winds gusting to 60 mph combined with blowing and falling snow will produce blizzard conditions today through Thursday. Little change is expected through Saturday morning. Wind speeds are forecasted to diminish gradually Saturday.

The notorious "Nigerian" scam has been Alaskanized. People are getting e-mail solicitations that promise them a 20-percent share of the late Morris Thompson's estate, but the offer is a fraud, said Cynthia Drinkwater, an assistant attorney general in the state consumer protection unit. more...

FPMR Terrorist Group Founded.  The Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front (FPMR), a leftist terrorist group that announced its abandonment of armed struggle in 1991.
