State of Alaska Situation
Nov 2005 Southeast Storm
The Governor’s Disaster Policy Cabinet met yesterday afternoon to address the November 2005 Southeast Storm. Disaster declaration recommendations have been forwarded to the Governor's Office for consideration.
Winter Storm Warning
The National Weather Service Fairbanks continues the winter storm warning for St Lawrence Island and Bering Strait Coast. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 pm this afternoon. The wind will be gusting to 50 mph with blizzard conditions.
Volcano
Augustine Volcano: Current Level of Concern Color Code: YELLOW. Elevated seismicity continues. No explosion-like signals like those seen in previous days have been recorded as of 20 December. Partly cloudy; web camera and satellite images of the volcano showed nothing unusual. There is no indication that a large eruption of Augustine is imminent. Small explosions can still occur with no warning and could affect low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the volcano. AVO sent two crews to Augustine today, one to install supplemental seismic instrumentation, and the other to measure gas emissions.

Significant Dates
December 21, 1999 – Colombia: FARC ambush on military convoy kills 9, injures 2 civilians.
December 21, 1988 - United Kingdom, United States: Pan Am Flight 103, outbound from London for New York with 259 people aboard, was destroyed by a bomb on December 21, 1988 while over Lockerbie, Scotland. All aboard the aircraft were killed, as were eleven persons on the ground at Lockerbie.
December 21, 1975 – Austria: Pro-Palestinian guerrillas attacked an OPEC conference in Vienna, killing three people, wounding seven, and taking eighty-one hostages. Forty-one Austrian hostages were released in Vienna, while the rest were taken to Algeria and released on December 23, 1975.
