State of Alaska Situation
DHS&EM continues to monitor the increased activity of Augustine Volcano over the past week.  We are also working with seismologists, hydrologists and volcanologists of the Alaska Volcano Observatory, Alaska's Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, the National Weather Service, and local emergency management officials of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, to review State and local response plans should an eruption occur.  

International Situation
A Sudanese diplomat and five other Sudanese have been kidnapped in Iraq, the country's Foreign Ministry said, and one of those kidnapped was able to briefly telephone the country's mission after he was taken. Sudanese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jamal Mohammed Ibrahim said that among the six-kidnap victims were four employees at the country's diplomatic mission in Baghdad, including the one diplomat, identified as Abdel Moneam Mohammad Tom. Guerrillas stormed an Iraqi army post on Friday, killing 10 soldiers and wounding 20, as Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told U.S. combat troops their numbers would fall as Iraqi forces were trained to take over.
