State of Alaska Situation
Volcano
Augustine Volcano: Current Level of Concern Color Code: Yellow.
Elevated seismicity continues. Web camera views on December 27 showed continued steaming at the volcano's summit. There is no indication that a large eruption of Augustine is imminent. Small explosions can occur with no warning and could affect low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the volcano.

Earthquake
The Alaska Earthquake Information Center located a moderate earthquake that occurred on Tuesday, December 27th at 3:03 PM in the Unimak Island region of Alaska. This earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 and was located at a depth of about 16 miles. The magnitude and location may change slightly as additional data are received and processed. No reports of this event being felt or causing damage have been received at this time. Distance to nearby locations: 82 miles SE of Akutan and 213 miles SW of Sand Point.
International Situation
Leftist rebels ambushed a group of soldiers Tuesday who were protecting civilians in southern Colombia, killing 28 in the deadliest rebel attack in a year marked by hundreds of military deaths, officials said. About 400 rebels with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, surprise attacked 80 troops near Vista Hermosa, 105 miles south of Bogota, said brigade commander Col. Carlos Ramirez.
