State of Alaska Situation
High Wind Warnings
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning through tonight for the following areas:
·       Cape Fairweather to Cape Suckling coastal area including Yakutat
·       Glacier Bay including Gustavus
·       Eastern Chichagof Island including Hoona
·       Salisbury Sound to Cape Fairweather Coastal Area including Elfin Cove and Pelican
·       Cape Decision to Salisbury Sound coastal area including Sitka and Port Alexander
·       Eastern Baranof Island and Southern Admiralty Island including Angoon
·       Juneau Borough and Northern Admiralty Island including Juneau
·       Inner Channels from Kupreanof Island to Etolin Island including Petersburg, Wrangell and Kake
·       Dixon Entrance to Cape Decision coastal area including Craig and Klawock

Port Heiden Erosion
·       An eight member U.S. Air Force team with equipment departed Anchorage Wednesday for Port Heiden via commercial air transport.  Lieutenant Meeker, the team leader, joined the team in Port Heiden Thursday.  The USAF team is using ground penetrating radar (GPR) to locate additional buried human remains requiring exhumation and reinterment.  Lieutenant Meeker reported earlier, that the team planned to build caskets and a shed to store the remains until they can be reinterred.  DHS&EM sent 20 body bags to Port Heiden Thursday to assist in this effort.  The USAF team will also finalize road access issues with Port Heiden Mayor Lynn Carlson.

National Situation
·       Secretary Tom Ridge announced that effective 9:30 AM AST, today, December 21, 2003, the Homeland Security Advisory System Threat Level is raised to Orange, High, meaning that there is a high risk of terrorist attack, although specific targets have not been identified.  The State of Alaska will analyze the current situation and make a decision tomorrow, December 22, on what actions the State will take.
